About World Letter Writing Day

Welcome to World Letter Writing Day

World Letter Writing Day offers a delightful escape for families, especially those with children, to unplug from the digital world and rediscover the timeless joy of letter writing. It's incredible how this simple act can enhance children's focus on their studies and education. Moreover, we've found that exchanging letters is a wonderful way to strengthen family bonds.

A heartfelt thank you note to mum and dad is always cherished and grandparents' faces light up with joy when they receive a letter from their grandchildren. Our mission is to share the happiness that comes from the heartfelt exchange of handwritten letters with loved ones. The joy a letter brings can be cherished forever. After all, who ever discards a love letter? While World Letter Writing Day is celebrated on 1st September, we invite everyone to embrace the art of letter writing, any day of the year! World Letter Writing Day is more than a single occasion; it's a chance to spread happiness throughout the year.

Writing A Letter For Business

A few years ago I was working on my third book which is titled; 100 Australian Legends – The People Who Shaped A Nation. I spent seventeen years meeting, photographing & interviewing 100 Iconic Australians. One of the legends I met & interviewed was Frank Lowy who is the founder of Westfield Shopping Centres. Mr Lowy is a multi billionaire & obviously a very busy person. I knew to get his attention I had to approach him in a different way. I knew that if I sent an email to Westfield that it would be unlikely that it would get…

Sir Donald Bradman

Never Underestimate The Power of Writing A Letter To Someone.

The 1st of September is World Letter Writing day which this year fell on a Saturday. The day before I visited a Catholic primary school in Sydney Australia as part of World Letter Writing Day. I spoke to children from the ages of 5 to 12 & they all wrote a letter, many of them for the very first time. One of the children had finished writing his letter & gave me his envelope. I looked at the envelope & it read: Adress Heven & in the corner he wrote: To God. I was a little confused & asked him...Continue reading

The launching of World Letter Writing Day

On the 1 September 2014 Richard Simpkin launched World Letter Writing Day at Waverley College in Sydney Australia. The event gained major media exposure for WLWD and also for Waverley College where the media picked up the story and the school was able to get great positive exposure for promoting the art of letter writing. The children enjoyed writing letters to everyone from their parents to the local council. Many of the children had never written a letter before so it was an exciting lesson for them all. If you would like Richard to attend your school to help teach...Continue reading

1st September 2020 – Dear friends

Dear friends, Happy World Letter Writing Day 2020. Since I founded World Letter Writing Day in 2014 thousands of people from all around the world have picked up a pen or pencil & wrote a letter, in many cases for the very first time. I have received many letters myself since 2014 from people just wanting to say thank you to me for encouraging them to write letters again. A lot of people tell me that they used to write letters when they were younger, but as time goes on they have stopped, many used to have pen pals &...Continue reading
